Greetings to all visitors! This is Yoo, Beom (Prof. of Dept. of English Education, Chungbuk National University), the 5th president of the Korea English Education Society.

The Korea English Education Society (KEES) was founded on August 3rd, 2001 in order to provide a forum for exchange of knowledge and information for development of English education. Since its foundation, the KEES has been seeking the education policies, teaching methods, education plans and evaluation methods required for effective English education in the field of education through research and academic activities.

The KEES has two main purposes: The first purpose is to contribute to successful English education of Korea.

We need to interact smoothly with people around the globe in order to raise Korea's status in the international society. For this, the young generation to lead Korea should have enough English proficiency through effective English education. The English education of Korea has undergone many changes and trials and errors according to foreign and domestic conditions and the necessity of the times, and it will continue to develop based on them. The KEES intends to contribute to successful English education of Korea by solving problems and difficulties in this process and by seeking the ways to enhance the results of English education.

The second purpose is to contribute to the development of English education internationally.

In various countries whose native language is not English, English education is being conducted through English as a subject like Korea. These countries are conducting English education with various policies and ways according to their situations and conditions. The KEES intends to even contribute to the development of English education internationally by conducting researches on English education of foreign countries through academic exchange with scholars and experts of various countries.

The members of the 5th president¡¯s group including me will do our best in order to operate the KEES so that it can serve these purposes. In addition, we will make an effort to develop the KEES by focusing on the following six matters during our term of office.

¡Ü We will make an effort for ¡®English Education,¡¯ an academic journal of the KEES, a candidate for being registered in the National Research Foundation of Korea, to pass the continued evaluation and to be a registered academic journal.

¡Ü We will provide an opportunity that experts from various fields including teachers, professors, English education experts, English education policy makers and administrators can interchange various opinions through regular academic forums and symposiums.

¡Ü We will provide an opportunity that local and foreign English education scholars and experts can interchange opinions and research into foreign English education by holding an international academic conference.

¡Ü We will publish a series or technical books which can contribute to development of English education and develop teaching and learning materials.

¡Ü We will supplement our website in order to enable getting a membership or paper submission on the website to be possible.

¡Ü We will make a newsletter in the form of a webzine and email it to members in order to convey the news of the KEES easily.

The plans of research and academic events of the KEES can succeed only when members actively participate in and provide support for them with interest. I sincerely hope the KEES will take a step forward through the officers¡¯ efforts and members¡¯ interest and support.
